Music Quiz: ‘Got’ Song Titles Quiz

Tony dominated last week’s MTV Unplugged album quiz, scoring a perfect 24/24.

This week we’re looking at songs with the word “got” in the title.

I scored 30/32 – I was down to educated guessing about halfway through the quiz, so I was happy with that.

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for vintage musicians passing away. Australia has been hit hard with Archie Roach, Olivia Newton-John, and Judith Durham all leaving us. I liked this anecdote about the recently departed Lamont Dozier, part of the famed Holland-Dozier-Holland songwriting team.

And sometimes Mr. Dozier uttered a real-life sentence that worked in song, as he did one night when he was in a Detroit motel with a girlfriend and a different girlfriend started pounding on the door. He pleaded with the interloper, “Stop, in the name of love” — and then realized the potency of what he had said. The Holland-Dozier-Holland team quickly hammered the sentence into a three-minute single, the Supremes’ “Stop! In the Name of Love.”

  1. Got ’em all with 4:25 left. Some educated guessing at the wire. Another Dozier story I heard on the news today was that I believe his grandmother was a shop owner or something. His grandfather was a flirty kinda guy who, when women came in, would say, “How you doin’ sugarpie” or “What’s up, honeybunch.” Which eventually led to “Can’t Help Myself.”
