Weekly Music Quiz: MTV Unplugged Albums By Three Songs

Making mellow music with his wife paid off for Rich Kamerman last week – he scored perfect marks in the ‘Margaritaville’ quiz.

This week you need to identify the Unplugged album by three songs.

I scored 23/24 – I’m only on name terms with 30 Seconds to Mars and Dashboard Confessional and messed up my 50/50 guess at the end.

If you want an extra challenge, I enjoyed this Venn diagram about 1970s progressive rock.

  1. A paltry 20/24. Was moving along nicely and then stumbled badly. As for the progressive rock Venn diagram, it took a couple of false starts before I realized you can click in between and around the band names. Then it was an easy 8/8 with 2:00 left on the clock.

    • You’re in the lead so far. It’s a pretty diverse group of artists so it’ll be interesting to see if anyone can get 24.

      • 15/24. All my guesses were bad. And then there were two where the titles were in Spanish and of course I guessed Shakira each time. And somehow got it wrong both times.

        • Weird – I think she was one of the Spanish ones, along with Ricky Martin (whom I was unaware made an Unplugged album).

  2. 24 / 24 with 2:47 left on the clock – Owning a good chunk of them helps and I had to 50/50 with 10,000 Maniacs and Thirty Seconds at the end got lucky. I had that Dashboard Confessional one some years back and it’s got to be one of the worst of the bunch as they made the decision to have the crowd’s incessant singing of every word higher in the mix than the actual band.

    • Perfect score! I’m surprised you don’t know 10,000 Maniacs’ cover of Springsteen/Smith’s ‘Because the Night’ – it might be one of the most popular songs to emerge from the Unplugged trend.

        • It’s the biggest hit song for both Smith and 10,000 Maniacs, I think. I like Smith’s better, but 10,000 Maniacs’ charted slightly higher.
