Music Quiz: US Bands Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Tony, who joined me on 18/20 in last week’s Album Covers III quiz.

This week your challenge is to identify the correctly spelled band names.

As a web editor, looking for spelling mistakes is my job, so I scored 15/15.

I enjoyed this song from Japan’s Tatsuro Yamashita popping up on random today. He’s an obvious devotee of Brian Wilson. It’s a cover – the song was written by Harry Nilsson and Phil Spector, and originally released by the Modern Folk Quartet in 1965.

  1. 15/15 5 seconds left. That said, I am disqualified because it took me 5 tries to get this. I had plenty of time to get them all right but kept rushing and effing up.

  2. As someone who does proof-reading as part of his job, I’m embarrassed to say I stumbled after getting 13 with the correct spelling. On another note, I’ve had trouble leaving comments at your blog, including last week’s quiz when I was never able to post my comment (I did poorly so you didn’t miss much).

    • Sorry you’ve been having trouble commenting. I’ve been playing with caching plugins, which are a pain with the comment form. I think I might have fixed it going forward.

  3. I never heard of that Harry Nilsson song before. I like it. I knew he was a Brill Building guy before he started singing but I never really knew any songs he wrote way back then other than Paradise by The Ronettes. He was from New York too. I think Brooklyn. And I just found out somebody else who is from Queens. Melanie. I thought I knew everybody who was from Queens.

    • I neve really thought about where Nilsson was from, and I had no idea about the Brill Building stuff. I just thought the Beatles discovered him.
