Music Quiz: Greatest Hits Albums VIII

Congratulations to 2loud2old and Tony, who both scored 20/20 in last week’s greatest hits VII quiz.

It is with an air of inevitability that we move on to greatest hits VIII. Can you identify the 20 bands responsible for these greatest hits.

Play greatest hits VIII on Sporcle.

I scored 19/20 – I took a 50/50 guess between undressed women and large sea creatures at the end and got it wrong.

Can you beat my score and attain the perfect 20?

James Taylor’s Greatest Hits contains a newly recorded version of ‘Carolina in my Mind’. It’s become definitive version – here’s the fast-paced original, recorded on The Beatles’ Apple label. It features Paul McCartney on bass and George Harrison on uncredited backing vocals.

  1. I am terrible at these contests. But this is one of the greatest summers for music ever . My top five

    5 Manchester orchestra- the way
4 milky chance – living in a haze
3 Young the Giant. The walk home
    2. Boy genius- not strong enough
    1. Nothing but thieves – Overcome ( one of the best songs in the last 10 years).

  2. Each week I feel like I’ve got a perfect score just waiting to happen and then BAM, I make one bad move. I had 16 of these easily before my stumble and ended up with 18/20. As for James Taylor, I live in Chapel Hill, North Carolina where he grew up. There’s a bridge here named after him, although he should be embarrassed to have his name associated with it since it’s really just an overpass. A year or two ago the Chapel Hill Visitors Information Center moved to a new location where they got him to record a video greeting for visitors that plays on a loop.

  3. I kinda like this Carolina in My Mind better than the new one. My favorite version of it is the one by Melanie. Remember her? She did great covers. The Stones’ Ruby Tuesday and Wild Horses. She was awesome sometimes

      • Lmao. That sure is just how she says it. Lol. She has a really great greatest hits album that I love. And she had enough good ones to almost fill it up. My favorite is Look What They Done to My Song Song Ma. One of the greatest songs ever

    • That James Taylor compilation is pretty canonical, at least in NZ. Used to see it all the time.

Sounds like people want a different kind of quiz this week…
