A bunch of songs have been transmogrified into Shakespearean sonnets. Apologies – this one is a bit more brain-intensive than usual. You might need to wait until you have ten minutes of focused time.

I puzzled through 12/14 – missed a couple of the songs I didn’t know as well. It’s pretty eclectic, from 1960s classics to modern Disney songs.
Congratulations to Tony, who scored the only 18/18 in last week’s literal image quiz. Pussycat Dolls and Lovin’ Spoonful tripped up a lot of people.
I’m often interested in non-disco artists venturing into disco – here’s Jackson Browne’s effort….

Guess I’m illiterate, as I got only 4 out of 14. That Jackson Browne song doesn’t sound at all like disco to me, as I was a huge disco fan and consider myself an expert on the genre.
Sorry for the hard quiz – there’s only been one mark over 5 so far!
I don’t think that Jackson Browne song is straight disco, but it’s got some disco elements like string stabs that you wouldn’t find in other Browne songs.
An interesting topic, to be sure. I’ve read Shakespeare’s plays, but sonnets? Could make for some good songs. (I didn’t try the quiz.)
Two songs I love that are based on poems are Phil Ochs’s “The Bells” (Poe) and Syd Barrett’s “Golden Hair” (Joyce). Both are incredible.
The quiz was more about converting popular songs into sonnet form. Australian singer-songwriter Paul Kelly made an mini album where he adapted Shakespeare sonnets into songs.
managed 10/14 before hitting give up, wouldn’t have guessed the rest if they’d been turned into full plays
You’re clearly winning so far…..
I got four pretty easily and then my brain started to hurt, so I gave up. I wasn’t a Shakespeare fan in college, and I like him even less now.
There seems to be a clear divide in scores between Americans and non-Americans – I had to study a few Shakespeare plays in high school.
I studied Shakespeare a little in college…that didn’t help whatsoever. I flunked this one!
Score
5/14
You’re coming second at this point!
Wow!
Way above my attention span. I gave up almost immediately.
Sorry, next week won’t be as nasty.
Graham I probably could have done this one, but with more time. Neat idea for a quiz though 🙂
too tough for me
