Music Quiz: Most Songs in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs

Congratulations to EclecticMusicLover, who just pipped MusicEnthusiast in last week’s Music in Song Titles quiz. I was even more impressed by 2loud2oldmusic, who solved last week’s bonus question, linking five albums by knowing they were recorded at Electric Lady studios.

This week we look at the artists with at least three songs in Rolling Stone’s list of 500 Greatest Songs.

I scored 32/35 – if you’ve read this site, you’ll know I’m a lot weaker on hip hop than on pop/rock. I also missed one iconic 1960s group – I know lots of their other songs but not the one listed.

Can you beat me and get all 35?

For some reason, this song completely passed my by until recently – it namechecks where I live (the Hutt Valley). It’s a collaboration between Don McGlashan, perhaps better known for his later work with The Muttonbirds, and Harry “Cast it into the fire, Isildur” Sinclair.

  1. 33/35…. what an eclectic bunch of titles. On one song I kept typing in the Allman Brothers but it was the same song name by a mostly British band.
For the hip hop I just typed in a bunch of names I knew…got most of them like that.

    • That’s a good hip hop technique. It is pretty eclectic, so good job Rolling Stone – noone’s got 100% yet.

  2. 34/35. That was easy except for the one about Going Home or something like that, I didn’t know that one. I think I had a lot of time left too but I forget what it was.
