Music Quiz: Artist by First and Last Song

1. I’m happy with my 13/16 performance this week, but disappointed about one that I missed since they’ve been among my all-time favorite bands for 40+ years. I also forgot about…or wasn’t aware of…that Bill Withers cover in clue #1.

   • I missed one of my favourites who I blogged about very recently – just don’t know his debut album, and haven’t listened to his final album enough.

2. 12/16 – I’ll take it!

3. I tied Mr. Down Under. That first one that was not Bill Withers drove me freaking insane. It HAD to be him. I tried every possible spelling. Withers. Wither. Seasons of Wither. Billy. Bill. I have never heard the other artists’ version. Some of those were such no-brainers my grandmother could have gotten them. Others (“Uncle Arthur”) were like, wha?

   • Yeah, the Withers thing was annoying me too – I was pretty sure his debut was slightly earlier too, and ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ is early in the record. Funny how the other artist is so much bigger but so much tougher – no-one listens to his early solo work.

     • Whatever happened to him?

       • I saw a documentary about Withers a while back. He’s basically retired from music in the 1980s. Interesting career – he only started in his 30s, then stopped in his 40s.

4. Also, you cleverly chose the Replacements album as a tribute to my blog. The first song on their first album is called “Music is a Good Thing” and the last song on their last album is called “Enthusiast.”

   • The last song on the first side of their debut is actually called “I Hate Music”.

     • Too funny. I hate it too. So – music-y.

       • It’s got too many notes apparently…

         • And it’s so noisy.

         • Depends how loud you have the stereo…

   13/16 … I missed one of them that I had no business missing…but the Ain’t No Sunshine…threw me…I had no chance…I just knew it was Bill…

6. 13/16 for me this week. There’s two more I could’ve gotten but the last one, I had zero chance. I’ll live with it.

   Like others, though, damn that little paedophile.

   • Yes, it’s weird how he’s a mega-star but his first and last albums are so obscure.

8. I had major suckage on this one. 9/16. Can’t win them all (or hardly any for that matter)

     • For me, 80’s is my wheelhouse.

9. 7 of 16 in my jet lagged state trying to recover from vacation – although to be honest probably wouldn’t have done much better even not tired. bunch of them I didn’t know.

   • Better luck this week when you’re not jet-lagged.
