Music Quiz: You’re Talking About Sex, Right?

Congratulations to Tony, who just pipped James Kalyn from Keepsmealive for top honours in last week’s quiz. This week your task is to complete the album titles for songs with sexual euphemisms.

I scored 20/24. It’s a pretty eclectic mix of music, although it’s perhaps not surprising that it skews towards R&B.

On Tuesday, drummer Hamish Kilgour of The Clean was found dead. The Clean were one of the leading exponents of “the Dunedin Sound”, lo-fi bands from the early 1980s who idolised the Velvet Underground. As well as the band’s own catalogue, they spawned a couple of worthy spinoffs. I listen to The Bats (formed by Clean bassist Robert Scott) and David Kilgour’s solo career more than the parent band. Here’s one of The Clean’s best-known songs, ‘Tally Ho’.

  1. Just 19/24 for me this week.

I had a vinyl box set from The Clean a few years ago which I got for a very good price, but after playing it a couple of times I realized I didn’t love their music so I sold it. I have enjoyed some David Kilgour solo stuff. Sorry to hear about Hamish. I assume he was David’s brother.

    • I love the first David Kilgour solo record (1992’s Here Come the Cars) more than any of The Clean stuff I know. I like The Bats as well.

  2. First of all, naughty, naughty. I’ve actually been thinking for a while about doing a post about the nasty. Maybe one day. Anyway, 18/24. I’ve never heard of the Clean. Someday maybe you or somebody could explain to me what was so great about the Velvet Underground.
