Music Quiz: Rock Sub-Genres

Congratulations to EclecticMusicLover, who scored the fastest time in last week’s golfing quiz.

This week’s quiz is longer and more challenging. With 50 questions, you may wish to preload on some coffee first.

I scored 47/50 with 5:24 remaining. All three I missed were from the 1970s and 1980s – including one very obscure (IMO at least) posthumous release from a rock icon.

Can you beat my score?

In other news, I’d never seen this cover for Mick Jagger’s solo album Primitive Cool before. It’s bizarre – surely it didn’t help sales?

  1. Had to give up after getting 42/50. I probably should have remembered a few others but I’m happy with my results. I agree about that posthumous release. As for the Jagger album, I haven’t seen that cover but I’ve heard the album, and I would say the music is what impacted sales. Not a good one from Mick, although he later redeemed himself with the wonderful Wandering Spirit.

    • I think 42 is a pretty good score. I barely know Jagger’s solo stuff – I mainly remember the incredulity over the 5 star Rolling Stone Goddess in the Doorway review.

  2. I could have sworn that Mick Jagger album had a different cover than that one. Maybe there’s an alternative cover or something

  3. I got 39. I did bad on those heavy metal ones and for some reason it wouldn’t take AC/DC for an answer ,but isn’t that who did Highway to Hell? I could have swore it was . But it wouldn’t take that answer. I guess that was the wrong answer

    • Sounds correct. Just depends on who makes the quiz and how they format it. 39 is a good score. Have you made any more quizzes lately?

      • I never thought of just typing acdc without the slash or uncapitalized, but the slash is just so much a part of the way you spell AC/DC. I’ve never seen it written otherwise. Whoever made
that quiz should never have done it like that. nah, I haven’t made any quizzes in about a year or two.

  4. I’m shouting about the world outside…. 49/50 (I failed on some funk). It’s great to see some post-rock in there as that’s the quickest I’ve run through a quiz section before and am now gonna spin a few

  5. SCORE
40/50 I guessed at the heavy metal ones…just typed them in…and the JH one was tough…I missed it.
Looks like Mick went back to his late sixties days to drag that picture out.
