1. No go. 13/16. I’d filled everything in but the clock kept ticking. Then I realized it would put in whatever letter you wanted but could still be wrong. It turns out, oddly enough, that satu is not a word. Although it should be.

   I have not read the Island book but it sounds interesting. A well-respected label.

   • Satu is a popular female given name in Finland, meaning fairy tale.

     • Ah. Well then, I win.

2. Nicely done with my name in a Beatles reference. I still don’t know how I finished last week’s puzzle so quickly, but that lightning-fast speed continued this week as I got 16/16 with 2:38 remaining. I scanned through the album covers before starting and recognized most of them immediately, with just a few educated guesses. I haven’t read the Blackwell book but I’ve been a fan of Island Records for a long time. When I started at Atlantic Records in 1988 we distributed Island so I had access to a lot of that catalog.

   • Rich, you worked at Atlantic? So you knew Ahmet, Wexler, and all those legendary guys?

     • I worked in the royalty accounting department at Atlantic from ’88 to ’94. Sadly the company was split, as were most record labels, into the “creative” and “support” sides, and rarely did the two interact, so I never met Mr. Ertegun or any of the other legendary guys. I did have two brief chats with Phil Collins, rode an elevator with Peter Frampton, and missed hanging out with Robert Plant outside my office by about 10 minutes one night. Oh, and I met Debbie Gibson too. 😀

3. 11/16 and ran out of time. I haven’t read the book but I knew U2 was on the Island label.

   • I used to have a CD rack with about 15 Bob Marley and John Martyn CDs in a row – lots of Island labels there.

4. 12 of 16 – blanked on most of the last column

5. Don’t know much about the Island label other than that Marley and U2 were on it – also didn’t realize it had been around so long

   • I didn’t really realise it was still going – the book ends a bit sadly about looking forward to Amy Winehouse recording her third album.

6. 16/16 w/ 2:33 left, the ones I’m not familiar with is the second artist on the top row and the second artist on the second row.

   • Eagles Hotel California and RHCP Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

7. 16/16 with 1:06 left. I’m not quite as quick as these other fellows but at least I got them all this time.

   • I know, right! They’re older than us and keep beating us for speed.

8. 16/16 with 2:34 left on the clock. I paused on one that caused me precious seconds.

10. 14/16 …one I have no clue but the other I knew…but I couldn’t remember…still can’t but I know the first letter now….just found it….rhcp

    • Good score. I’m just the right age to know that RHCP album – it’s part of the canon for a white male my age, even though I’ve never heard the whole thing or owned a copy.

    I haven’t read the book, but would agree that Island had a pretty impressive roster. Robert Palmer was on there, too.

    • Yup, there’s a whole page of Robert Palmer album covers which looks really cool.

      • Palmer has a few really interesting covers. Especially on his early albums.
