Tony managed a very strong 49/50 in last week’s tough rock sub-genres quiz, an excellent effort.
This week’s quiz is shorter, but I found it challenging. You need to identify hits by seven artists named Paul.

I scored 24/28 – I was fine with Mr Simon, Mr McCartney, and Mr Mauriat, but struggled with Mr Anka and Mr Davis. In particular, I had no idea who Paul Davis was, let alone identify his hits…
Can you beat my score?
In other news, I learned this week that I am one degree of musical separation away from Deane Waretini, who scored this #1 hit in 1981.

A slow browser threw me off and I ended up with a paltry 23/28. Oh well. We can’t all be Tony. 😀
23 isn’t too bad I think – I’m interested to see how the scores shake out this week.
What do you mean you’re one degree of musical separation away from that guy?? How?
I play in Church band with his nephew.
Oh. That’s pretty cool. Wouldn’t that be 2 degrees? Seems like one degree would be if he’s YOUR nephew. Or maybe that would be zero degrees. Or would zero degrees mean that it’s YOU? Ha ha
Yeah, I think you’re right, oops.
23/28 but I don’t know why cuz I know I didn’t get any Paul Simon or Paul McCartney or Peter Paul and Mary wrong but it said I did. I think I got them all right except for Paul Young. Even Paul Davis I knew.
Weird – it is possible on those ones to get in the wrong artist and get some wrong.
Oh yeah, I always forget that sometimes the name changes up at the top but I’m still clicking on songs from the previous person. I always forget that on those kind of quizzes
Been there before.
Odd. I got 23/28 too. I have no idea who Paul Davis is and I know exactly one Paul Young song. I thought I would know more of Paul Anka’s but, alas.
Not much variation in scores so far. I’m not sure that a lack of knowledge about Paul “Puppy Love/You’re Having My Baby” Anka is a bad thing?
I think Puppy Love is alright for that type of music. And also Put Your Head on My Shoulder is a pretty decent song. And My Way is good for that Las Vegas type of music. Or if you’re Sid Vicious. Or Elvis Presley. or Nina Hagen. I like all those versions,
Yes but he also wrote “My Way” and the theme for our Tonight Show when Johnny Carson was host.
I wasn’t fast but I got SCORE
28/28

The Paul Mau**** I didn’t know but it was a process of elimination.
This hopped into spam for some reason – maybe it thought Paul M’s surname was a swear word?
lol…possibly!
I got all 28 correct, with 3:31 remaining. I love Paul Davis’s songs “I Go Crazy” and “Cool Night.
Great work. I think you’re this site’s biggest Paul Davis fan!
Probably so, as I’m one of the few who knew him by name.
Impressive. Davis is wholly unknown to me.
Thanks. I guess I heard his songs a lot on the radio stations I listened to back in 1978 to 1980.
I got 17 correct so I ain’t winning this week!!
Unless we discover a doping scandal….
Oooh! We should be testing because I think a few people might get disqualified.
You’ll need to mail in a urine sample to New Zealand.
26/28
Great work!
Thanks!
Nope. Turns out I know fewer Pauls than you. 13/28.
I was trying to think of an indie Paul that you’d be into, but can’t off the top of my head.
Yikes – started strong with the familiar McCartney / Simon hits and then barely earned the 50% with a 14/28!
Nice to have you back – I should check out your podcast sometime.
