Music Quiz: Which half of the 1980s?

Congratulations to Tony, who won last week’s R album challenge. Let’s take a break from sorting albums this week and guess which half of the decade songs belong to. Remember that 1985 is in the decade’s second half – more than half of my mistakes involved 1985 songs.

I scored 43/50 – I’m normally good at chronology, but found the 1985 ones tough.

Can you beat my score?

I’ve been enjoying a Warren Zevon deep dive recently. Here’s ‘For My Next Trick I’ll Need a Volunteer’.

  1. I got 46/50 but would have gotten 47 if I didn’t accidentally hit B when I should have hit A. I tripped up on those singles on the cusp of 1985–I chose A for “I Want To Know What Love Is” and “Careless Whisper”, as their parent albums were released toward the end of 1984, but those singles didn’t crest until early in 1985.

  2. 21/50 and I’m shocked I did that well. This takes a true audiophile to do well on. I would have trouble even with doing it by decade, let alone first half second half.

    • More like a musical historian I guess.? Something like the 1970s is probably easier – since disco is a clear dividing line.
