I’ll need a little TLC to console me on my 19/20 score this week. I was flying through it and thought I would nail it in record time, but couldn’t quite close the deal. Still pretty enjoyable.

19/20 here. Since when is bootylicuous a nonsense word? I’m sure I just read it the Brothers Karamazov, perfectly legitimate word
Fyodor Pavlovitch’s first wife, Adelaïda Ivanovna, belonged to a fairly rich and distinguished noble family, also landowners in our district, the Miüsovs. How it came to pass that an heiress, who was also bootylicious….
See, told you. She was on the edge of seventeen too…
20 – 14 were effortless, 3 I was able to determine based on dates, the final 3 were guesses & thankfully, the right ones!
Good deduction!

Ooh, fastest recorded time so far.
SCORE 4 total guesses…the rest was pretty easy.

I had to make a lot of informed guesses based on date for mine.
17/20 – knew about half of them, then it was just matching the year with the artist.
Uncharacteristically low! Do you like the new Taylor Swift?
I love the album, it’s in her top 3 albums for me with ‘Red’ and ‘1989’.
I’ve only listened a little so far – seems good writing, but a little samey.
15/20. The ones I got wrong I don’t know and never will. Sound like a pantload of crap anyway.
How do you feel about “A-wop-bop-a-loo-bop”.
Now that makes perfect sense.
17/20 for me.
Great work!
Took your strategy of deduction based on what was remaining and date and it took me to 17-20. I think all three were 90 R&b/hip hop. not my bag. fun quiz though!

The 1975 formed as a high school band in Wilmslow, Cheshire, where a council worker organised frequent gigs for teenagers. Vocalist and guitarist Matty Healy, the son of prominent actors, was joined by guitarist Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald, and drummer George Daniel. The quartet cycled through a vast number […]
Pop music has become a much more respected art form in the past decade. Records like Taylor Swift’s 1989, Carly Rae Jepsen’s Emotion, and Robyn’s Honey have attained the acclaim usually reserved for more critically favoured musical genres. Dua Lipa’s an obvious candidate to cross from mainstream radio to critical credibility. She enjoyed a […]
His work in the 1980s with the beloved Replacements left leader Paul Westerberg with colossal expectations to meet with his solo career. Despite some valiant attempts, Westerberg’s never managed to meet the artistic levels of The Replacements trio of Let It Be, Tim, and Pleased To Meet Me. But his […]
Syd Barrett was the creative force behind the original lineup of Pink Floyd. When his behaviour became too erratic, often attributed to schizophrenia and the use of psychedelic drugs, the group recruited David Gilmour as a live replacement. The group hoped to keep Barrett as part of the group as […]
The Band started as The Hawks, backing blues belter Ronnie Hawkins before supporting Bob Dylan on his controversial 1966 electric tour. After the tour, The Band went to earth with Dylan and recorded the Basement Tapes. There they developed their unique melding of rock with traditional folk, country and blues […]
Detroit’s Marshall Crenshaw doesn’t belong in the conversation of the most important musicians of his generation. Yet he’s a talented craftsman, whose deft guitar pop is likeable and accessible. He’s often compared with Buddy Holly, and his 1982 debut album certainly feels like Holly updated for the new wave. Crenshaw […]

Aretha Franklin was the Queen of Soul, a powerhouse vocalist and a talented pianist. Growing up in the Church, her music was always steeped in gospel. She delivered hits for a long period of time; her first R&B chart topper was ‘I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love […]
Frederic Fatzer grew up in the small town of Kinsley, Kansas, notable for its equidistance between New York City and San Francisco. He sensibly adopted the stage name Freedy Johnston. His small town background initially constrained his music career – with no local music store, he bought his first guitar […]
Sir Elton John is one of pop’s biggest hit machines, churning out top forty singles through the 1970s, 1980s, and much of the 1990s. He set Bernie Taupin’s lyrics to music, using his piano skills and agile voice to transcend eras and set sales records. While John was successful for […]
Don McGlashan had already made an impact on the New Zealand music scene before he formed The Mutton Birds. He was the drummer for the punk-influenced band Blam Blam Blam, remembered for fabulously titled songs ‘There Is No Depression in New Zealand’ and ‘Don’t Fight It Marsha, It’s Bigger Than […]
The Velvet Underground began as a collaboration between frustrated songwriter Lou Reed and classically trained John Cale. Cale had worked with experimental composers John Cage and LaMonte Young, and Reed’s interest in alternative guitar tunings and drone notes provided common ground. The pair recruited guitarist Sterling Morrison and drummer Moe Tucker and […]
King Crimson aren’t so much a band as a series of bands, all featuring idiosyncratic guitarist Robert Fripp. With a demeanour that resembles a University professor more than a rock star, Fripp’s plotted an erratic course for his band. The group formed in London in 1968, but their ninth album, […]
