Music Quiz: Tic-Tac-Toe

Congratulations to everyone who scored 26/26 in the 1990s Ruined by a Letter quiz – Tony easily recorded the fastest score, thanks to some judicious coffee. Drew didn’t complete the quiz, but was the only person to solve the bonus question – the choice of album art was New Order’s only 1990s album, Republic, which contains the track ‘Ruined in a Day’.

This week’s format is a little unusual – I’ve replicated the instructions below. It’s a tic-tac-toe board with nine statements in the squares. Some are correct and some are incorrect. You need to find three correct statements in a row and enter the correct sequence of numbers. There are eight possible answers (123, 456, 789,147, 258, 369, 159, or 357) and you need to enter the correct one into the answer box. More than 3 statements on the board are correct, but you need to find the three correct answers that are in a tic-tac-toe winning combination.

  • Enter a 3-digit sequence indicating three consecutive spaces you believe to contain TRUE statements.
  • Possible winning sequences are the three horizontal rows (123, 456, 789), the three vertical columns (147, 258, 369), or the two diagonals (159, 357).
  • If correctly solved, the entire board will fill in with the correct answers. Incorrect answers will display only the solutions for the spaces that were guessed.

I solved the puzzle correctly (which gave me 19/19 for some reason) with 1:38 remaining.

  1. Wow, I got it. When I read your instructions I figured I was screwed. Those things always confuse me. What I didn’t realize is that there is only one answer. Anyway, 1:28 remaining so you beat me by 10 seconds.

  2. I went with my default starting placements for tic tac toe (or naughts and crosses) and so got the line by pure chance and 19/19 with 2:13 on the clock even with the coffee machine on the fritz
