Simon and Garfunkel Bridge Over Troubled Water

Music Quiz: 70s Song by AI-Generated Art

Congratulations to boppinsblog, who beat kingclover for bragging rights in last week’s quiz.

We’re staying in the classic rock era for this week’s quiz. You need to guess the song based on AI-generated art.

I scored 15/15 with 5:18 remaining – the ELO one took me a while to puzzle out.

I usually find that as rock artists grow older, they make more reflective and less melodically exuberant music. This new Freedy Johnston song does the opposite – it’s the most joyful song he’s ever made. Susan Cowsill is on backing vocals.

  1. 15/15 with 4:51 left on the clock. For some reason the S&G song stumped me until it became very obvious. Good call with the Freedy Johnston song. Just played the new album earlier this week and it’s really good. I’ve been a fan since his second album and he has yet to disappoint.

    • There was a clue in the post image for the Simon and Garfunkel one!

Freedy Johnston’s been pretty consistent, but it’s nice to hear something from him that’s a bit more energetic.

    • Good work. Best I Could Do is also the name of a John Cougar Mellencamp compilation – he’s my Sporcle nemesis as I can never spell his name.

  2. SCORE The EJ song got me for a while…it was strange.

I like that Johnston’s song. It does have a kick to it that some of his earlier ones don’t.

    • All of the AI art is pretty weird – that generator has a pretty recognisable aesthetic. Working on a bigger Freedy Johnston post for a couple of days away.

      • Awesome…I’m looking forward to it. I saw some homemade videos of him singing live I think recently…he sounded great…and I’m more of a record guy.

  3. 15/15. 4:24 left on the clock.
Funny you should mention Susan Cowsill because last night at work we were talking about The Rain, the Park and Other Things. One of the greatest records of all time as far as I’m concerned.

  4. an old roommate of mine had a Freedy Johnson album that was like all oldies and I remember saying that there were a lot of good songs on that album. I don’t really remember how it sounded though.

    • I’ve never actually heard his covers album – although it sounds kind of cool. It features songs from other artists he’s worked with, like Marshall Crenshaw and Stan Lynch.
