Jack Harlow

Jackman Thomas Harlow grew up on a Kentucky horse farm. It’s a surprising background for a top-selling rap artist. And Jack Harlow sounds like a white rapper who grew up on a Kentucky farm. His rapping is so casual and vanilla that it’s hard to take him seriously, even when he has some cool sample ideas. Better rappers languish in obscurity, while Harlow’s good looks have undoubtedly helped his profile.

Lovin On Me

The main hook for ‘Lovin’ On Me’ comes from Cadillac Dale’s 1995 song ‘Whatever (Bass Soliloquy)’.

Just like Vanilla Ice’s recycling of Queen’s ‘Under Pressure’, there’s no reason to listen to Harlow’s reworking when the source material is much more interesting. Harlow dilutes the main hook with some meandering rapping.

The Aftermath

Harlow’s been quiet since 2023’s Jackman. He returned with 2026’s Monica, a foray into R&B that’s received mixed reviews. He didn’t help himself with some boneheaded comments to the press …

“You didn’t retreat into a whiter genre. In fact, you arguably went deeper into Black music.”

“I got Blacker.”
