1. I crapped out at 14/20. I should have gotten the Sex Pistols clue but the other 5 I wasn’t going to get under any circumstances. A nice challenging quiz this week. Well chosen.

   • We’ve had three 14s so far. I’d be very impressed by a 20 in this – requires broad knowledge and some lateral thinking.

2. 14/20. Missed the rap songs, Blink-182, Baha Men, and Metallica. Should have been 15 as I forgot to type the letter “I” for the Cash song.

   • Sounds like we got quite different things right – maybe we could have got full marks as a team…

3. 16/20. No way I was gonna get Kesha and Pitbull, whoever they may be. I should have – but did not – get the Sex Pistols one. After that I guessed wildly. For Notorious B.I.G, forget “Dad Got Fat.” As to the Bruno Mars one, after several shots at it I guessed the right answer not even knowing it was really a song. Just made sense logically.
   As to your blog title, still thinking. As to your tag – is there really such a thing as intelligent music? ‘Coz that sure ain’t rock ‘n roll. 🙂

   • The main thing I know about Ke$ha is that her milkshake brings all the boys to the yard.
     Maybe “Still Thinking” is a good title?

         • Never seen that – I’m pretty ignorant of movies containing violence in the last ten years, as my wife hates movie violence. She also hates girly rom-coms, so it’s not too bad.

         • Also, I just realised I’ve been mixing up Ke$ha and Kelis – Kelis has the milkshake, Ke$ha has Tik Tok.

4. 9/20. Of those missed, for two I could have kicked myself. The rest, never heard and probably never will.
   For the name, maybe try to incorporate your given name in – makes it more personal. Chris

   • I kind of want to get away from a first name thing, I want something that sounds a little bit official.

5. I was in the middle of it and had to work and didn’t hit pause… I was at 7. Work gets in the way!

   • You can try again when you get home if you want – as long as you didn’t see too many of the answers.

     • I did it…the only one I saw was Beatles and I’m pretty sure I would have guessed that…. 12/20
       These are a lot of fun

       • The Beatles? Not exactly sure who they are, but I think you’ve mentioned them on your blog?

         • Nah…you mean that band out of Idaho? They will never make it.

6. “You came. You saw. You conquered.”
   A couple of very lucky guesses, 20 seconds left on the clock, and more than a little frustration with the Sex Pistols song as I was convinced it referenced another of their songs but that might be my favourite quiz to date.

   • Wow, I thought 20 was tough in this quiz.
     There are basically two famous Sex Pistols songs, right, so if it’s not one, then try the other.

     • There were a lot of guesses in there – I don’t think I’ve ever knowingly heard a Bruno Mars or Kesha song

       • Do you know Bruno Mars on ‘Uptown Funk’? That’s a pretty recognisable song.

         • I’ve heard bits of it, and I heard something else in the wife’s car. It’s ok just far from my favoured blend

7. Managed 14/20 due to good typing skills (which allowed multiple attempts… Dad, Pop, Papa, Poppa…YES!)

   • I would never have thought of using the word Poppa – it’s not in my vocabulary, so good work – you’ve joined the mode on 14.

8. 17/20 so not too bad. that was really hard.
   Okay…on the name thing…last week you mentioned Middlebrow or something like that, but if you want it to be songs that are intelligent than Highbrow Music might work. good luck on the name.

   • Great score, but I’m trying to resist the urge to use the phrase “that’s what she said”.
     I always think Highbrow music is opera and classical – intelligent pop music is like middlebrow culture. But if I have to explain it, it’s probably not a good blog name.

       You are right…highbrow is opera and classical.

10. 17! After seeing the answers, I should have gotten the Johnny Cash (the Blink & BIG weren’t going to happen)

11. When you say tagline…are you after something to replace “Aphoristic Album Reviews” — or something else. I’ll have a think!

    • I want a site name and a tag line.

      • Oh right. A full rebirth!

        • Like a rebrand. Feel like I want to express my niche clearly so that it’s clear what my site’s about.

13. I’m looking at a small statue I have on my desk of Rodin’s The Thinker and trying to figure out a title for you – I love the tag line. Thinking Man’s Music? Thinking Music? Pondering Music?

    • I feel like Thinking Man’s Music would halve my potential audience.

14. What about Smart Notes – A blog for music that won’t insult your intelligence?

    • Smart Notes is good – maybe I should chuck the ideas in a poll for next week’s quiz.

      • A variation just occurred to me – Smart Riffs? Notes perhaps a bit academic. Riffs suggesting actual performing.

15. on the quiz, I laughed on the Michael Jackson one – I just started typing song titles and when I put in Beat It, it filled in the right answer and gave me credit. 🙂

    • Beat It certainly sounds plausible for that, so it makes sense.

16. 14/20 before I bailed on that one. I don’t think I would have gotten the others. A good tough challenge.
