After Them split up, Van Morrison’s solo career started under the control of manager Bert Berns. Van Morrison has disowned the solo debut that Berns made from his early singles. It contained the hit ‘Brown Eyed Girl’, which has never been one of my favourites – as Van Morrison himself said, “it’s not one of my best. I mean I’ve got about 300 songs that I think are better.” Van Morrison amusingly got out of his contract with Berns by recording 31 songs in one session to fulfill his obligations; including gems like ‘Ringworm’.
