I’m on holiday, so I’m drafting this up slightly early. Congratulations to Jim, Music Enthusiast, who scored full marks with the fastest time in last week’s quiz.
This week your challenge is to insert a popular phrase into a pair of band names. It’s a little longer than usual – make sure you have a spare five minutes.
The one I got wrong was a little tricksy. There are two answers that begin with the same first word (king).

With my king slipup, I scored 39/40. Can you beat me for the perfect score?
This is probably the only quiz on Sporcle to feature Don McGlashan.
I’ve been reviewing Australian singer-songwriter Paul Kelly. I’m up to Kelly’s 1994 solo Wanted Man. Coincidentally, today is Paul Kelly’s day, the date celebrated in his 1997 song ‘How to Make Gravy’.
The song even has its own Twitter account:

36/40. It took me a minute (or two) to catch on. I think I could have gotten them all.
You can have a crack at part 2 next week.
p.s. thanks for the tip on 2 kings
SCORE
38/40…I didn’t read about the kings…so I deserved it lol.
I think one is plural and one is singular, but easy to trip up.
Have a good break!
39/40 with 0.32 on the clock. Quite a clever idea this one!
Great job.
Got ’em all. 2:08 left. Fun one. Whatever happened to Kings of Leon?
You’re in the lead at the moment. Sex on Fire was everywhere for a while but I haven’t really heard from them since.
They appear to still be together but not quite at the status of “cover of the Rolling Stones” band they used to be. I can’t believe I’m in the lead. I didn’t even try very hard coming off of a win. I await Tony’s demolishing of my time.
I think you might repeat your win.
Tony territory. I’ll prepare a speech.
39/40 for me, too. Mutton Birds + Persephone’s Bees tripped me up.
Mutton Birds are from NZ, so pretty well known here, at least for my age group.
Whew, that was a lot of fun. 40/40 with 2:03 left on the clock. Once again, I couldn’t quite match the time of my fellow “older fella” Jim. 😀
There are three of you all within a few seconds.
40/40 with 2:07 left. No guessing needed either. For each pairing, I knew at least one of the bands.
Great work!
Wow, this was super hard! I only got 19/40. You really need to look through the options carefully!
Yup, it’s a tough one. 40 options is a lot to process,
I enjoyed the experience, though. Thanks for the quiz!
40/40 but I only had 49 seconds left. That was fun.
Kind of wish you’d had 40 seconds left, for symmetry. But good work anyway!
Got em all…. eventually as only 1:31 left on the clock. Happy to see Buffalo Tom get a mention though if only for cat and mouse cartoon reference
Good work. I haven’t really heard Buffalo Tom, but checking them out now.
I remember this Paul Kelly song cuz a friend of mine married a guy from Australia and when they came to New York he made me a CD of Australian music and it had a bunch of Paul Kelly on it and all these Australian bands. When they moved back to Adelaide I wanted to go visit them and I figured it would cost maybe about $500 to fly there but when I checked the airlines it was about $2,000 or $3,000!!! Of course I couldn’t afford any such thing so I never got to go there but I wish I did.
It’s pretty expensive to get anywhere from New Zealand. Even Australia costs quite a bit.
38/40. I missed the one with Chip, and Tom & Jerry. There was a lot of bands in there that I really like!!!
