I knew 16, then squeaked my way to 19/20 thanks to some strong guessing at the end. It felt sometimes like the author had been rifling through my record collection.
I enjoyed this section on punk rock from the satirical historical series Cunk on Britain:

Absolutely horrible. Never heard of most of them. 8/20. Not sure how many US responses you’ll get. Thanksgiving is coming up on Thursday and many people travel or are otherwise engaged.
Have a good Thanksgiving!
5 and I gave up at 2:32. That’s a hilarious youtube and probably twice as funny for people in the UK.
I like it when she dresses up as people, like Margaret Thatcher.
Complete fail for me. I only knew five, and struck out repeatedly once I starting trying to guess.
Yeah, it’s hard to guess when you don’t have many nailed down.
I knew 7 of these easily and the rest had me scratching my head. With a whole bunch of wrong guesses I ended up with 7/20.
I think this one helps the younger contestants – makes up for the 1972 hits quiz a few weeks back.
13/20. Those are some pretty wicked long song titles.
You’re currently winning, I suspect younger posters probably have an advantage in this quiz.
Haha, it’s so nice to be called younger.
The worse I ever done… I think… 9/20
Yeah, I didn’t really think about how tough this one would be for the regulars. Stuff like LCD Soundsystem and Queens of the Stone Age feels like canon to me, but maybe not for posters who are a bit older.
Yea I never clicked next more on any one before…hey it was a learning adventure.
Most of these are not my genre of music so not even worth posting. I did get Megadeth, but those EMO/indie guys, not even a clue what songs they do.
I don’t really know my Fall Out Boy from my Taking Back Sunday, but I knew enough of the others to set myself up for some lucky guessing.
I got 14/20 with 3:14 left. That was pretty hard.
Yeah, it was a tough one.
So far it looks like I’m beating somebody by one point. I hope I win!!!!!
It’s looking good.
Promising start with 8 for sures – but then only 1/12 on the guesses, to land just below a passing grade!
But a pretty good score in the context of this week.
Aphoristic Album Reviews is almost entirely written by one person.

The grandson of a Titanic survivor, Haruomi Hosono was the bassist for the Japanese band Happy End. During a jam session with Happy End, Hosono took a double-sized hit on a joint. The joint was tainted and triggered panic attacks. He healed himself by reading the New Age book The […]
I recently decided that this site needs a lists page, so over 2019, I’m planning to publish lists one at a time. I’m not trying to be objective with these – I regard them as a list of favourites. All lists in alphabetical order. Ten Favourite Vocalists | Ten Favourite […]
Perhaps the most celebrated band to emerge from the 1970s punk movement, The Clash started as a straight-out punk band. But their music soon expanded, incorporating the reggae and dub they heard on London’s streets, as well as venturing into radio-friendly rock, hip-hop, and pretty much everything in between. As […]
Mike Scott was born in Edinburgh, the son of an English teacher. Scott’s interest in literature is clearly visible in his catalogue, but his life was changed when he bought the single ‘Last Night in Soho’ by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich at the age of ten. At […]
Born Carol Klein, Carole King was the most successful female songwriter of the second half of the 20th century in the U.S., writing more than 100 Billboard 100 hits. King grew up in New York, and attended Queens College, where she collaborated with other musicians of Jewish heritage; she recorded […]
Buffalo Springfield were a short-lived, but fascinating band. It’s easy to draw parallels with The Byrds – both were 1960s Californian folk rock bands, with volatile lineups, who spawned many notable acts. Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Richie Furay of Poco, and Jim Messina of Loggins and Messina all launched their […]

The Band started their career backing blues belter Ronnie Hawkins, where they were known as The Hawks. They then supported Bob Dylan on his controversial 1966 tour. Recording The Basement Tapes with Dylan at Woodstock, The Band started writing their own material. Their 1968 debut, Music from Big Pink was […]
James Marshall Hendrix was born in Seattle. After his discharge from the army he became a musician, spending years gigging with acts like Little Richard, Sam Cooke, and Ike & Tina Turner. Despite his immense talent, it wasn’t until he was spotted by Keith Richard’s girlfriend and signed by former […]
Formed by London architecture students in 1964, Pink Floyd are one of the most beloved classic rock bands. While most attention is given to stadium-rock blockbusters like Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall, they enjoyed a lengthy career on either side of the 1970s. Pink Floyd started recording in the psychedelic 1960s, […]
Bic Runga was born in 1976, the youngest daughter of a Chinese Malaysian lounge singer and a Maori ex-serviceman. While still in her teens, major record labels entered into a bidding war for her signature. Bic Runga’s a New Zealand music icon despite releasing only four studio albums of original […]
Liverpool’s second-most famous band, Echo & the Bunnymen arrived in the post-punk era; they released their debut single in 1979. Their early career mirrors U2‘s – both released their first four albums between 1980 and 1984. Both were enjoying mainstream success in the UK by 1984 – Echo & the […]
The Eagles emerged from California in the early 1970s, initially as Linda Ronstadt’s backing band for her album Silk Purse. They were massively successfully, with a string of chart-topping singles and albums. In particular, their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) is one of the highest-selling albums of all time. It’s appropriate that […]
