Music Quiz: Album Covers II

I had to post this week’s quiz a little early, so I might have missed some late entries for last week’s Red Album quiz. But congratulations to 2Loud2Old Music, who recorded a perfect score with the best time.

This week, it’s another old-fashioned album cover quiz, but with typing instead of clicking.

I scored 20/20 with 6:55 remaining – can you beat my time?

I saw this cartoon floating around on social media this week – enjoy!

      • A couple of people have got 19 and missed that one. I guess it’s one of The Doors’ more obscure albums, but they’re still a well-known classic rock band with a small discography.

          • Stewart Copeland’s solo career has been far longer and more prolific than his time in the Police at this point. Jimi Hendrix only has three official studio albums although of course his career was interrupted by his untimely death.

          • Yeah, good point. My sources tell me Hendrix was pretty influential. I’m fond of quoting that The Beatles official output was about 10 or so hours.

          • Janis Joplin had even fewer than Jimi Hendrix. She only had two official studio albums. Unless you count Cheap Thrills.

          • Sex Pistols seems like it could be the most famous one. All I could think of is Blind Faith or Derek and the Dominos, just because they’re famous for breaking up so fast after their only album. And I don’t know if they really count because maybe people just consider them different Eric Clapton projects or something.

          • Most people interested in classic rock know Layla, probably better known than any Sex Pistols song.

          • That would be an interesting list to see. One Album Wonders. cuz you always see stuff about One Hit Wonders, but not about One Album.

  1. A lousy 12/20. I recognized every cover but the ones I missed I realized afterwards I would never have gotten. Funny cartoon as long as you know the original routine.

      • It’s a parody of an old routine by Abbott and Costello, the American comedy duo. (Comedy duos have, as far as I know, gone the way of the dodo.) This is a classic routine they did called “Who’s on first?” It references our game of baseball so your appreciation of it may hinge on that. But to this day it’s so enshrined in our culture that this routine is in the Library of Congress National Recording Registry.

  2. I only got 19/20…I had to cheat somewhat to get one…well I knew the name but I could NEVER spell Sy…sync…oh the Police album lol. That you have here on top of the post.
    LOVE the cartoon Graham!

    • I remember finding it in a bargain bin and having to look at the spine since it doesn’t have a name on the cover.

  3. 20/20 with 5:57 remaining. An interesting side effect of being off your tits on coffee is that while I got these in a blur, typing fast means it takes even longer to correctly spell album titles

  4. 20/20 with 4:16 left. But you know what? It would have been faster, but I kept putting Sergeant instead of Sgt and it wouldn’t take that as an answer, and I couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Then I figured out what I was doing wrong. ha ha

  5. 16 of 20 – realizing I need to get a computer with a better keyboard.. i also ran into the Sergeant Sgt issue and had to look it up . I enjoyed the cartoon – like Jim says, it think its funnier if you know the original but pretty creative. Happy holidays to everyone!

    • What’s wrong with your keyboard? I’ve never noticed much difference between keyboards. Have a good Christmas – it’s already afternoon in Christmas Eve here.

      • I have an old laptop that is missing some of the key covers so when I want to type a B for example I have to press down extra hard. Yeah I could get it fixed if I want to be without the laptop for a month. Anyway merry Christmas to you too Graham. I’ve really Enjoyed blogging with. You this past year (or at least commenting on your blog) 😀

  6. I got 8/20, sorry! I’ve seen at least three other album covers before, but I forgot the names of them and I didn’t want to cheat. But anyways, happy holidays to you and your family! Have a merry Christmas! Also, that cartoon was hilarious, “who’s” versus “whose,” haha!

  7. 20/20 5:09. I got stuck on two (I knew the cover but do you think I could think of the name?), and one I only knew the main song but not the album title (I never owned it) so it took me some time to think it through. Fun!
