Last week’s US presidents quiz was a tight run thing, with both Jims joining me on 20/20 at 2:50, creating an historic three-way tie.
This week we’re looking at the parenthetical aside, as commonly utilised in 1980s song titles. There was no room for ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ or ‘So. Central Rain (I’m Sorry)’.

I scored 18/18 with 5:02 remaining. Can you beat my time and get them all correct?
Did you know that The Beach Boys are still banned from San Diego Zoo, after some bad behaviour during the photo shoot for the Pet Sounds cover (an album that featured the parenthetical song title ‘Don’t Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder)’)

Had a very slow response time between clues so even though I scored 18/18 my time of 4:54 remaining is not as fast as it should have been. Oh well, I still enjoyed this week’s quiz.
Sporcle does run a little slowly sometime. We’ll see how your time stacks up.
17/18 with 4:24 left. What the heck did the Beach Boys do at the zoo?
Apparently they threw a carrot at a tiger, among other misdeeds.
18/18 with 5:11 remaining. Literally, the easiest one I’ve ever done, the first time I’ve ever known all the songs without some wild-assed guess.
You might win this week too.
Woo-hoo! Keep up the good work.
17/18. I didn’t know that Sly parenthetical. It’s an odd one, that.
It’s the phonetic(?) spelling of Thank You for Letting Me Be Myself Again, IIRC.
Yeah. I realized that after I went back and reread it. I was trying to be speedy.
15/18 – don’t know much about Hall and Oates, The Penguins and Sly and the Family Stone. I like the next article on that Beach Boys Zoo link about Paul McCartney eating celery for a song.
I think Sir Paul did it for the Super Furry Animals’ Rings Around the World too.
17/18. I got REM wrong. Just didn’t know it.
Do you know the song?
That’s great, it starts with an earthquake
Birds and snakes, and aeroplanes
And Lenny Bruce is not afraid
14/18 with 4:41 remaining. A few guesses in there, too – I wasn’t familiar with too many of those.
Good work anyway.
16/18 with 4:40-something left. Some of the wrong answers were hilarious.
Yes, I liked them too. Good work.
Thanks! These are fun.
15 of 18 – guessed wrong on a few (wrong bird phrase on the Beatles one, for example)
Good work anyway!

TIMER
03:08 I don’t know how I missed this Wednesday.
But you almost got 100% anyway.
