19/20. Can’t win ‘em all, I guess.
I don’t think anyone’s scored 20 yet. I think the hardest one this week is Australian, which gives me a bit of an advantage.
19/20 here – never heard of ‘I Can’t Say Goodbye to You’ performer
She’s Australian and my dad thinks Delta Dawn is a great song.
My spelling was atrocious and it cost me a lot. 17/20.
I allow myself to google for spelling. I just open in another tab and spell it as best I can and see what comes up. Mellencamp is a hard one.
I need to do that. I spent too much time retyping different spellings and then ran out of time.
16/20. Moving rapidly to the bottom of the heap. There was one band in there that if I hadn’t gotten, I should have been ashamed. I jammed with (some of) them!
I assume it wasn’t the Ramones since they’re all dead….
You saw my series …
I know. I imagine you might not have enjoyed Ramones bandcamp as much – lots of I IV V!
True but I would have liked it more than, say, Celine Dion camp.
19/20 for me. I made about 10 guesses on the one I ultimately missed, and once I discovered who it was I realized another 1,000 guesses wouldn’t have helped. Otherwise a very easy one this week.
I’m assuming you missed the recent-ish female rapper?
You are correct, sir. I know who she is but not familiar with her songs.
I don’t really like her stuff – maybe I’m getting old too!
Are you inferring that I’m old?
If you were 20, I think you’d ace Cardi B and have no idea who Helen Reddy is.
Then consider me very happy to not be 20.
Have you caught up with the bad Fountains of Wayne news?
Yep. Awful. If he only wrote “That Thing You Do” he would be a legend to me. A song created for a movie that’s as good as any pop song ever written. Of course the entire FoW catalog is great…especially the debut which is pretty close to a perfect album.
I’m more of a Utopia Parkway fan – I’m sure we’ve had other situations recently where you opt for the debut and I prefer a subsequent one…
It’s often about when you discover an artist. I got the debut when it was released and it made a huge impact on me. I love everything that followed but none killed me like that one.
15 of 20 (I believe again) – while I appreciate how wide ranging the lists of artists is, that makes it that much harder. Only one where i should have gotten (the one where the guys are incognito). The one female artist was before my time, and others,, oh well. 🙂
Did you hear the bad Fountains of Wayne news just now?
No I haven’t. I’m afraid to ask
Oh fuck. So very sad
I have been worried that many of my musical heroes, many of them pretty advanced in age, would succumb to this.
He wasn’t even very old or unhealthy looking. Sounds like John Prine is fighting for his life as well.
Yes that the thing about this virus – its killing all age groups not just the elderly. Its like a roll of the dice if you get it. Very torn up about this – really loved this band.
Thanks for the heads up. Meant to given you a HT on my blog post
20/20 – I did not expect to see a comedy duo in this mix.
I only really know them because Joni Mitchell covered them.
19 – as per usual, the current artist (south of the border?), no idea!
I tried listened to her but didn’t really like it – she gets a lot of critical acclaim, but I just felt too old.
18/20 … I just cannot get another perfect one. I had to cheat on one. How to spell a certain southern rock band.
Yes, that’s always tricky to spell.
15/20. Three of them (Reddy/Cheech/Grand Funk) are new to me and will investigate further. To be honest that is part of fun!
I like that there are various financial aid initiatives for musicians at the moment, tough to pay the bills if you can’t tour and are not a big name.
Fingers crossed John Prine pulls through.
It’s good you’re using it as a learning opportunity. I AM WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR!
