Congratulations to “guest” who scored 40/40 in a late entry, and Murphy’s Law, who scored 39/40, in last week’s tough three word song quiz.
This week’s requires you to identify which groups are named after members of the band, and which are made up.

I scored a tending-towards-the-median 16/20, which I’m sure many of my bright readers will eclipse. Let me know how you scored.
If you have some spare time, you might want to browse through Scott’s Music Writing Blog – I especially enjoy the lists (https://musicmusings.music.blog/articles/) and song of the week (https://musicmusings.music.blog/random-song-of-the-week/) features.

19/20. Dammit. So close. BTW, guest?
An unknown did the quiz while I was making the post last night, and scored 40 – noone’s ever entered as “guest” before.
Sure, anyone can score 40 if they don’t actually take the test and say, Hey I scored 40.
Yeah, I did give the name of a second, regular contestant as well who scored 39, and they did provide some details to make it look like they did the quiz (they said the Styx one was hard).
You can trust us regulars. We don’t cheat. Unless there’s money involved. 🙂
19/20 for me. Got the first 18 in something like 40 seconds, then scanned through the remaining artists and chose unwisely.
Running as fast as they can
Kamer man lives again
I stunk at that one 16/20.
Same as me, so we stunk together. As Bryan Ferry sang, “let’s stink together.”
18, I’ll take it. They couldn’t fool me with the Doobie Brothers!
Tom Doobie! Pat Doobie! Michael McDoobie!
Fran Sinatra sang about them. Doobie, doobir doo.
So there were sisters named Fran and Nan?
16. I got the ones I knew for sure and was guessing…
It’s a popular score, for sure.
I found this one tough. 16/20 for me
There are a few of us on 16. I guess you could describe us as “the pack”.
Another 16.
Looks like it’s the cool score this week.
I bet you fill out crossword puzzles in pen…. I got a lucky guess and wish I had the surname ‘Slaughter’
So that’s a 20?
Boom! Yeah, a couple of lucky guesses in there though as I got to 17 and then started a mental process of elimination. Slaughter was the most likely compared to Doobie
19 of 20 I picked Marshall Tucker (I don’t know southern rock)
No, I don’t know much southern rock beyond the obvious ones like Allman Brothers, Drive By Truckers, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
17 this week. I went with some guessing and got them wrong… pretty disappointed Molly Hatchet let me down. Bah.
I still can’t remember if Molly Hatchet is a real name or not. But you’re ahead of the pack, so good work!
She’s a character from legend – the US Civil War maybe?
My “sources” tell me Molly Hatchet was named for a”legendary Southern prostitute who allegedly beheaded and mutilated her clients.” Sounds to me like they were flirtin’ with disaster.
Joining the pack with 16/20. Quibbling a little with Guns n Roses – sure there’s Axl Rose but is that why the band was named what it was? Plus is Axl Rose even his real name? I didn’t go for the Traveling Wilburys although didn’t everyone in band have a Wilbury name? 🙂
I got that wrong too. Apparently the band was named after the two original members, Axl Rose and Tracii Guns, but it is a weird case, since they’re both stage names. If you can have that, does The Ramones work too?
And actually, Rose is his actual last name – Birth name: William Bruce Rose Jr.
Well I stand corrected. Learn something new everyday huh. Thanks for doing these polls. – there a lot of fun!
Points well taken, Paul. If I were running this contest I would give you a few points. Just enough, however, to break out of the ‘pack of 16’ but not enough to touch my score. ? Am I tied for second? I think so.
