Congratulations to Tony and to 2Loud2OldMusic, who both scored full marks in last week’s debut album quiz.
This week we’re looking at the other end of artists’ careers – the compilation. Can you name the artists that released iconically titled compilations. In a piece of related trivia, I learned today that The Fall’s 50,000 Fall Fans Can’t Be Wrong has sold 48,700 copies.

I scored 20/20 – can you also score full marks?

15/20. Argh. There were two I should have gotten, the rest, forget it.
Were you in a Rush?
No, in fact I like to think of myself as a new world man.
19/20- never heard of the fella who wants meeting in Margaritaville
I hate that fella’s signature song…. Looking for my lost shaker of salt?
19/20. Not too bad!
Yup, we’ve had some of our leading lights stall at 19 this week. We’ll wait and see if anyone makes the full 20.
19/20 for me. The one I couldn’t remember is an artist I like a lot and I own that compilation. Guess I needed to be in a pink house when I took this quiz.
I actually did this quiz 6 months ago and added it to my list. I don’t think I would have got that one right 6 months later – was obviously in my short term memory at the time.
15/20 – In Ontario, that’s the provincial standard, and on a category that’s ineligible (comps) on the 1001 list, I’ll take it!
In some ways it’s a shame that they didn’t include the odd compilation – would help people like Chuck Berry get included.
20/20, 4:38 remaining!
Wow – fast time too.
I have a thing for Hits sets, and I’m pretty sure I’ve owned or still do own most if not all of the ones listed here. Fish in a barrel!
I have more than a music geek’s supposed to – I think they work really well for some artists, but others need the whole album experience.
Exactly! In fact, Rich’s excellent Kamertunes blog had a whole series on that: compilation or discography? Superb stuff. It’s here:

Sometimes I go overboard, like with the Stones. I own all the albums (on CD, though I would LOVE to get them all on LP it’s not likely to happen). AND I also own all the Hits compilations! Because Stones. And so on. 😉
Oh dear… I got 13. I could maybe have gotten one more, but no way I was scoring anything more than 14!
Good effort!
As usual, I didn’t come close to winning the battle. I’m satisfied with 13/20, the competition are more knowledgeable, and I didn’t know the greatest hits I missed. Adding Joy to the World: Their Greatest Hits to my list!
I don’t know much about Three Dog Night – I just read about them, and they had three lead singers, never knew that.
First time for a while I’ve been willing to offer a score: 17.
A little faith might have helped.
That’s a solid re-entry.
The quiz favoured older artists. Simple as that.
I guess that’s hard to avoid – most artists that emerged this millenium probably don’t have a compilation yet.
And even if they did, I’d never have hear of them or it!
